Cloth is one of the many artisan goods in Stardew Valley. Even though cloth has few practical uses outside of profit and building the Mill, it’s a necessary ingredient for one of the more fun and creative mechanics in the game — tailoring. Just by putting some cloth into a sewing machine and combining it with certain items, you can create all sorts of clothing and change up your style! You’ll want a lot of cloth for that, so here’s everything you’ll need on how to get cloth in Stardew Valley.

How to Farm Cloth in Stardew Valley
Getting cloth in Stardew Valley is pretty straightforward. Just put some wool into a loom and wait for it to be turned into cloth. That’s all there is to it! Of course, you actually have to get some wool and a loom first. Here’s how to do that.
Deluxe Coop / Deluxe Barn
Wool is an animal product that comes from sheep and rabbits. Before you can purchase them, you’ll need to upgrade to a Deluxe Coop or Barn. The Deluxe Coop is a little cheaper, but the Deluxe Barn is more useful for cloth farming in the long run.
Once you get this upgrade from Robin, you can purchase rabbits (Deluxe Coop) and sheep (Deluxe Barn) from Marnie, both for 8000g apiece.
Rabbits
Rabbits are the more passive way to get wool. As long as they’re fed, mature rabbits will drop wool every four days. You just have to pick it up!
The Deluxe Coop comes with an auto-feed system, so all you have to do is keep some hay inside the silo. You can further streamline the process with an Auto-Grabber, which you can purchase from Marnie for 25000g once you reach Farming Level 10. As the name implies, it automatically collects and harvests animal products each morning. All you have to do is collect the products from the Auto-Grabber, which is pretty convenient!
Sheep
Sheep require a little bit more work than rabbits. Fortunately, they’re also a much more reliable way to get wool! Sheep will produce wool every three days, provided they’re fed and their mood/happiness is at least 70. If the dialogue says that your animal looks fine or is really happy, you’re probably good. Just be sure to take care of them! Something else you’ll need to know is that you’ll need to have shears to harvest wool from sheep manually. Shears can be purchased from Marnie’s Ranch for 1000g.
You’ll want to pet and shear your sheep regularly. On top of being necessary to collect wool, shearing also increases friendship with your sheep. Once you get to 4.5 friendship hearts, sheep produce wool every other day instead of every three days. This lets you collect wool even faster. And if you choose the Rancher and Shepherd professions at Farming Levels 5 and 10, then sheep will produce wool daily. This is easily the fastest way to get wool in Stardew Valley, provided you have enough sheep.
Unlocking the Loom
Now that you have plenty of wool, you’ll need a loom to turn it all into cloth. The loom is a machine that can be crafted from 60 wood, 30 fiber, and some pine tar. All of this is fairly accessible, but before you can turn it into a loom, you’ll first need to unlock the recipe. This requires reaching Farming Level 7. Fortunately, you can gain experience in the Farming skill by taking care of your animals, which you’re doing anyway to get wool.
Cloth Farming in Stardew Valley
With the loom and some wool, you can start making and farming cloth in Stardew Valley! Just put the wool into the loom, and after four in-game hours, you’ll get some cloth. And if you use higher quality wool, there’s a chance the cloth produced will double!
Of course, you could always put some wet newspaper in a recycling machine or slay mummies in Skull Cavern, but if you want cloth quickly and reliably, turning wool into some cloth with the loom is the way to go. As long as you craft enough looms, you’ll have plenty of cloth in no time.
