If you’re one of the many players who have tried and loved Deep Rock Galactic, chances are you may be interested in playing similar games. In today’s article, we’ll be going over some of our most favorite games that remind us of playing Deep Rock Galactic.
Top 10 Games Like Deep Rock Galactic
Without further ado, let’s get right into this article for the top 10 games like Deep Rock Galactic!
10/10
No Man’s Sky
Starting us off at spot number ten on our list, we have a bit of a unique one. It’s No Man’s Sky! This is a sandbox, space exploration game set in a near-endless multiplayer galaxy. You will explore planets, discover new and unique creatures, upgrade your ship and venture out into the stars to make money, and fight off a variety of different, unique enemies.
The game shares a similarly vibrant and colorful aesthetic with Deep Rock Galactic. Additionally, mining/harvesting resources is a huge part of the gameplay loop. You’ll gain access to a special laser that you can use to harvest materials, and you can use those materials to upgrade your gear and your ships.
There are plenty of things that make this title different from Deep Rock Galactic. However, you should still give it a try, as it’s a really fun game. There’s a base building system, which is a late-game grind that allows you to invest your hard-earned resources into building a proper home for yourself. You can purchase a space frigate as well, which can also be customized to your liking!
9/10
Warframe
Taking spot number nine, we have the hit free-to-play PVE shooter, Warframe! This classic game has been beloved by gamers since its release back in 2013, and it’s still going strong almost ten years later. The game is set in a sci-fi universe and gives you lots of customization for your character. Both of these features remind me of my time playing Deep Rock Galactic.
Speaking more on customization, not only can you customize the look of your character, you can even determine the look of your very own ship! It’s incredibly fun and satisfying once you get everything looking just the way that you want it.
Gameplay-wise, your character in Warframe feels a lot more like an agile ninja than a hardy dwarf. The mobility in the game is incredible, and it’s one of its strongest aspects. And with a huge amount of content from the game’s nine-year lifespan, you’ll never run out of fun things to do in this sci-fi adventure!
8/10
Warhammer: Vermintide 2
For our next choice, we have the game Vermintide 2! This is a high-fantasy action co-op game with a big emphasis on melee combat. The game is beloved by players for its crunchy, satisfying gameplay and its incredibly stunning graphics. Its cooperative play and different classes/heroes give me flashbacks of Deep Rock Galactic. It lets the two games feel somewhat similar despite taking place in completely different timelines.
The combat reminds me a lot of Left 4 Dead, a game that heavily inspired Deep Rock Galactic. You’ll fight wave after wave of enemies as they come pouring in around you from all sides. Smart players will stick close to their squadmates and use teamwork to overcome any hardships they face. This is a really fun game to play in single-player, but it becomes so much better when you’re with friends.
There are many, many different characters that you can select. One of them is a pyromancer, who the ability to cast fire spells onto enemies to set them ablaze. Another is a Witch Hunter Captain, who has access to a flintlock pistol and a sword that he can use to effectively dispatch enemies. There is a variety of interesting classes, and you can customize them with unique perks to make them your own!
7/10
Aliens: Fireteam Elite
Taking home spot number seven on our ranking list, we have Aliens: Fireteam Elite! It’s a third-person shooter co-op game set in the Alien universe. I had low expectations going into it, but after trying it out, I was pleasantly surprised.
You and your team will fight off a variety of horrific alien creatures as you push through the game. Missions can get pretty intense at times as you and your team struggle against the overwhelming odds. As you progress through the game, you can unlock new perks and weapon mods, just like you can in Deep Rock Galactic.
Even if you’ve never seen any of the Alien movies before, this is still a great game to pick up if you’re looking for something to play on a Friday night. The atmosphere is really well done, and it’s very satisfying to play, especially with your buddies.
6/10
Risk of Rain 2
Taking the next spot on our picks of the top 10 games like Deep Rock Galactic, we have Risk of Rain 2! In this science fiction third-person shooter, you’ll explore a hostile alien world populated by terrifying creatures! The game is also a roguelike, similar to some of the others on this list. It leans more heavily into its survival aspects, so it manages to stand out from the crowd quite a bit.
The gameplay loop reminds me very heavily of Deep Rock Galactic. As you kill enemies, you’ll earn currency that you can use to acquire better and better gear. The progression system in Risk of Rain 2 is very good, and it’s one that I think you’ll really love if you like games that reward you for playing for a long period of time.
You can eventually become incredibly overpowered, able to breeze through the game with ease! While the game can be played single-player, you can also do co-op mode as well. This is where the game really shines, as it’s incredibly fun and satisfying to play with friends.
5/10
Immortal Redneck
Now for spot number five on our ranking list, let’s talk about the single-player first-person shooter Immortal Redneck! This is a fast-paced action roguelike that takes place in Egypt. This is a pretty great game that seems to take lots of inspiration from classic boomer shooters, such as the original Doom. The way it combines elements from multiple genres together creates a very unique experience.
Much like Deep Rock Galactic, this game has plenty of procedural generation. Every level is unique, and every playthrough feels different. There’s a variety of cartoonish-looking enemies for you to encounter as you venture through the pyramid, and you’ll need to fight them off with a variety of unique weapons.
Speaking of which, this game offers many different weapons that can be picked up as you venture through the level. There is also a skill tree that you can level up in order to make your playstyle feel unique. And you can choose from a total of nine different classes, a noticeable increase over DRG’s four classes. If you loved the multiple classes of DRG and its procedural generation, pick this one up!
4/10
Void Bastards
Up next at spot number four, we have the single-player action-roguelike FPS game, Void Bastards! This is a game that takes heavy influence from titles like System Shock and BioShock to create an immersive and tactical FPS experience. It’s a science fiction game just like Deep Rock Galactic, and also features a lighthearted tone, also similar to that of DRG.
In Void Bastards, you will complete a variety of procedurally-generated levels set onboard interstellar spaceships. If you loved the replayability and exploration of procedurally-generated caves in Deep Rock Galactic, you should enjoy Void Bastards.
Talking more about the gameplay, you’ll gain access to a huge number of guns that you can customize your loadout with. You can also craft a variety of different gadgets and equipment items that can be used to fight enemies in unique ways. If you loved being able to choose how you want to play in Deep Rock Galactic, you should get plenty of enjoyment out of this title.
3/10
Payday 2
Taking our next pick at spot number three, we have the co-op PVE first-person shooter Payday 2! In this criminal simulation game, you’ll pull off a variety of high-stakes robberies both big and small. You will play as one of four characters as you strike various targets all around Washington DC with the hopes of making it big and getting rich as a professional bank robber.
Players gain access to several different weapons. You have the generic stuff like pistols, shotguns, and assault rifles, but also more over-the-top gadgets like grenade launchers. Payday 2 features really good gun customization, letting you really flesh out your weapons and make them unique. There is a big emphasis on cooperating with your teammates and working together in order to successfully pull off a robbery.
While this game is a bit on the older side, the upside of that is there’s no shortage of content whatsoever. The game is packed with a huge variety of heists, from simple bank robberies to pulling off a mission inside the White House! The game comes with a lot of DLC content as well, so you can keep playing long after you’re done with the main game. This game is perfect if you love coordinating with your team just like in Deep Rock Galactic.
2/10
Borderlands 2
Coming in at spot number two, we have what is widely regarded as one of the best games of all time, Borderlands 2! This is a first-person shooter co-op looter shooter set in the anarchic world of Pandora. The story follows several treasure hunters as they try to track down the location of a mythical vault.
Like Deep Rock Galactic, the game features a cooperative first-person shooter gameplay set in a humorous science fiction world. You can pick from one of four classes (not including the DLCs), each of which has its own unique abilities and playstyles. As you play the game, you’ll be able to level them up and pick unique skills to specialize in one of their three skill trees. The progression is just top-notch in this game.
If you’ve ever played a Borderlands game before, you will know what to expect from the guns. This is a very fun game with satisfying gunplay. Being a looter shooter, you will constantly have different new weapons and items thrown your way. The weapons in this game are procedurally generated. This can lead to some unique and interesting guns that you can pick up on your adventure in Pandora.
1/10
Left 4 Dead 2
Taking the first place position on our ranking is (of course) Left 4 Dead 2! This is without a doubt one of the best co-op shooter games ever made, and it’s one of Valve’s finest works. Left 4 Dead 2 is a post-apocalyptic first-person shooter set in the United States after a grizzly zombie outbreak has ravaged the countryside. You’ll need to scavenge weapons and work with your team to stay alive.
The developers of DRG have commented on how this game was very influential on Deep Rock Galactic, so don’t be surprised if anything I say here sounds familiar. Left 4 Dead 2 sees players moving through mostly linear environments fighting off hordes of enemy zombies. You’ll come across a huge variety of different creatures, such as a monster that spits acid on you and explodes when you shoot it!
There is a very big emphasis on teamplay in Left 4 Dead 2. You can revive other players and heal them with medkits. Since many creatures can pin you down, you’ll need to stick close to your team so that these enemies can be shot off of you. In a lot of ways, Left 4 Dead 2 feels like a spiritual predecessor to Deep Rock Galactic. Despite its age, it still remains an absolute blast to play with your friends to this day.
