It doesn’t need to be said, but Dark Souls is a hard game. The game is full of many dangerous, unforgiving creatures that will kill you without a second thought. As you only have a limited amount of heals, it’s crucial that you learn how to upgrade and get more Estus Flasks in Dark Souls: Remastered for the upcoming threats ahead.
How to Upgrade Your Estus Flask in Dark Souls: Remastered
The Estus Flask is your primary source of healing in Dark Souls, but each one can only restore so much health at a time. Naturally, you’ll want to get more healing from each flask, especially when you only have enough time to use a single flask before a boss starts wailing on you again.
The only way to upgrade your Estus Flask in Dark Souls is to give a Fire Keeper Soul to a Fire Keeper. Fire Keeper Souls are a rare consumable item that you can find throughout the world. They will spawn in pre-set locations throughout the map, but can also be found by killing Fire Keepers. Speaking of which, Fire Keepers are important NPCs, also found in pre-set locations.

Once you’ve obtained at least one Fire Keeper Soul, the next thing you’ll need to do is find a Fire Keeper. The easiest one to find is located underneath the Firelink Shrine. Her name is Anastacia of Astora. Keep in mind that once you ring the two bells, she will be temporarily unavailable until you complete her quest.
If she is unable to upgrade your flask for you, then you can instead talk to one of two other Fire Keepers: the Daughter of Chaos, or Darkmoon Knightess. The Daughter of Chaos can be found if you head past Blight Town and into the Poison Swamp. There is a place that looks like a big insect hill. Go inside it, defeat the boss, and explore the area past her. She’ll be found underneath the bell. The Darkmoon Knightess can be found by going to Anor Londo.
How to Get More Estus Flasks in Dark Souls: Remastered
Aside from upgrading your Flasks to heal more health points, there are other ways that you can improve your ability to heal yourself. The most obvious way is to simply increase the amount of Estus Flasks you are carrying.
But if you are new to the game, how to do so can be a bit confusing. To do this, you’re going to need to kindle a bonfire, specifically by spending one humanity. When I say spend one humanity, I’m not talking about the humanity you are carrying in your inventory.
There is a number at the top left of the screen that tells you how many humanity points you currently have. To increase this, you will need to consume the humanity found in your inventory first. Once you do that, you can spend one point to kindle the flame, as long as you are not hollowed. You can un-hollow yourself from a bonfire, but it also will use one humanity point.
So once you kindle a flame, that specific bonfire will permanently give you an additional +5 extra Estus Flasks every time you rest at it! You can kindle it again to increase it by another +5. This bonus caps out at 20.
I highly recommend you kindle a flame if you find yourself in a difficult dungeon and need some extra help getting you through.
