First up is Guardian Kingdoms. This free-to-play multiplayer game has a much stronger emphasis on combat than most of the other games on this list. In the game, you will raise an army consisting of many different medieval-era units. You can then take these troops into battle, which will have you facing off against other players. What’s interesting is that some of these fights can include up to six other people!
The game also includes boss fights for you to face off against, as well as special hero units that you can use with cool skills and abilities. Overall, this is a really great combat-focused game that you’ll like a lot if you enjoyed the PVP and PVE aspects of Clash of Clans and similar games.
DomiNations
DomiNations is the next game on our list of the top 10 games like Clash of Clans. It reminds me very heavily of Sid Meier’s Civilization series. In the game, you will build your civilization and advance it through the ages with new technologies. Collect a variety of important historical figures and use them to help build up your nation.
You can do base-building in this game, just like most other games on this list. You can also lead units into battle. While I would not call this game “realistic,” its art style, tone, and overall feel are a bit more on the realism side than the cartoony side. If you’re looking for something that has a somewhat more serious tone than the other games on this list, then give DomiNations a shot.
Dawn of Titans: War Strategy
Dawn of Titans: War Strategy is a 3D action game. There is no base-building in this one — instead, there is a huge focus on combat and leading your troops into battle. Speaking of which, you can control many different units at once, alongside some special hero units called Titans. These titans are taken from Greek mythology, so you’ll see characters like Zeus, the God of the Sky, and Thor, the God of Thunder.
Being an online multiplayer game, you can fight off against other players as well. In addition to its tight strategic gameplay, it also features some of the best graphics out there for a mobile game. It tries to be more realistic than some of the cartoonier games on this list, so if you prefer something more grounded, then maybe pick this game up.
Jungle Heat: War of Clans
Jungle Heat is a game that shares much of the same DNA as Clash of Clans, but with a different look and setting. You’ll need to construct a military base and use a variety of buildings and defenses to keep it safe from other players. You’ll also have to train units to raid other players’ bases for treasure.
This game has a big emphasis on hero units, which you can use in combat to give you a special edge over your opponents. While some people may say this game is too similar to Clash of Clans, I’d say you should give this game a try for yourself and see what you think. Just be warned that the game does not receive as many updates as it did in the past, so its development is more or less done.
Cookie Run: Kingdom
Cookie Run: Kingdom is a multiplayer game set in the Cookie Run universe. In this spin-off, you are tasked with building a kingdom and gathering useful resources. These resources can then be used to create an army that you can take into battle to face off against other players. The base-building is my favorite part of this game, but the strategic gameplay is plenty of fun as well.
The game has a really cute and charming art style that sets it apart from other games on this list. I’ve always thought the Candy Land aesthetic was pretty interesting, and this game takes full advantage of that. If you are looking for a Clash of Clans-like game with a bigger emphasis on city-building/base-building, this might just be your game.
Forge of Empires
Forge of Empires is a mobile game that sees you founding the city-state of a soon-to-be-great empire. From this city-state, you can dominate your surroundings and take control of new territory, allowing you to develop new technologies and progress through the ages. This game reminds me a lot of the Civilization series in the sense that you are managing a vast empire consisting of large stretches of territory.
The game feels a lot more like a city-builder than Clash of Clans does. You can do things like place down houses and shops to help you generate wealth and valuable resources. The game is online and has multiplayer, of course, with PVP and the ability to join other players’ guilds. If you really love the thrill of progression you got from Clash of Clans, you might find some similar enjoyment from this game.
Plunder Pirates
Plunder Pirates is a game that takes heavy inspiration from Clash of Clans while managing to make some changes here and there that help set it apart and make it feel unique. In this game, you will create and customize the island base of your dreams, placing down a variety of buildings, walls, and various defenses to keep unwanted players out. The base-building manages to feel very similar to Clash of Clans, but remains unique due to how the environments make you plan out your base.
You can also send out ships to raid other players’ bases for their valuable treasure. The gameplay loop is very similar to that of Clash of Clans, of course. If you love pirate-themed games, games with base building, or just multiplayer games in general, then this is a great game to pick up. It’s a fun twist on the formula that is still popular years after its first release.
Rise of Kingdoms
If you’ve ever played the Civilization games, you may be interested in hearing about Rise of Kingdoms. This is a free-to-play mobile game that allows players to select from one of over a dozen different civilizations, from Ancient Rome to the Ottoman Empire and everything in between. After selecting a civilization, you will need to build up your city-state to get on the road to prosperity.
This is a game that has a lot going on for it. Good base-building, lots of different choices for players to make, solid progression, turn-based combat, etc. While the memes that float around online may paint this game as a typical low-quality mobile game, there is actually a lot of depth and quality content to be had here. If you are a history nerd, this might be the mobile game for you.
Clash Royale
Clash Royale is a game set inside the Clash of Clans universe. This spin-off title made by the same developers of the original Clash of Clans changes a lot about the Clash formula while remaining a fun and challenging experience. In the game, you collect a variety of cards and use them to face off against other players.
You’ll be able to choose from a variety of different units that you can send out to attack your opponents. Both you and the other player have buildings that they are responsible for defending from one another. Once your units manage to reach the other side and destroy those buildings, the game ends in victory!
Boom Beach
Up next is Boom Beach! Boom Beach was created by the same developers who brought us Clash of Clans, so if this ranking were based solely on how similar the games were to Clash of Clans, this game would definitely be in first place. In this game, you will create your own military base on an island in the middle of a vast archipelago.
You’ll also raise an army from a variety of unique unit types and then lead them to war against NPC factions and rival players alike. The game features everything you love about Clash of Clans — strategic gameplay, customizable bases, a great progression system, a beautiful art style, and much more.
