Is the future already here? Modern Work Environment (MWE) Labs is on the forefront of gaming pod technology. They market their Emperor Series Workstations as the future of computer workstations. Now whether we will be seeing this scorpion-like design multiplying in offices and homes across the nation is debatable. But we have to admit, the Emperor goes beyond the “pretty cool” category. At $6,000 a pop for their less expensive model (which used to be priced at $40,000), we don’t think we will see widespread adoption anytime soon. If you want the best, you better have a treasure chest that is waiting to be dug up. Their premium version The Emperor LX is a whopping $21,500. It offers up to 5 display monitors, 5.1 surround sound, and a holistically ergonomic design featuring multiple adjustment buttons. The Emperor 1510
MWE has considered all the details when developing the design for this workstation. Image stepping into an ergonomic capsule-like bastion with everything you need in less than an arm’s reach. Inputs and outputs allow you to connect any system whether it be a MAC/PC or console. Bose multimedia speakers and Acoustimass located under the seat surround you in crisp stereo like audio performance; with an optional headphone jack for those times you want to really tunnel in on what you’re doing. The soft glow of LED lights (located on the upper end of the structure) provide just the right amount of light and eliminates glare on the monitor setup. The stinger of the scorpion, if you will, allows you to lower and raise your monitor(s) to get just the right angle; or to exit the pod. Multiple seat, leg rest, and keyboard/mouse tray adjustments are also possible. The monitor mount enables you to set up one 30 inch monitor or three 24inch monitors. A convenient webcam can be activated if you’re ready to switch to stream or Skype mode. And don’t forget the best part: a cupholder area to the left side of the keyboard tray.
Ovei – The Ultimate Pod
We don’t even know if it counts as a chair, but it definitely lives up to the word ultimate. There are a few futuristic designs that send chills down our spines and this is one of them. McCormack Designs has been designing and constructing pods for a variety of applications for a handful of years now. The whole idea behind the Ovei is to provide the buyer with a place to escape from the distractions of the outside world. It only costs $60,000. Chump change, right? As temporarily embarrassed millionaires ourselves we will have to wait to order one.
