WESA or World Electronic Sports Association has been formed as a new governing body for eSports. Backed by the ESL, this new organization plans to be the FIFA for eSports. Advocates say this new association will further help legitimize eSports, fuel growth globally, and protect players’ rights. So far WESA’s aim is only Counter-Strike but may expand to other titles in the future.
China’s gaming cafes have made a major resurgence in the past year. Most of the growth can be attributed to Tencent, responsible for the extremely popular competitive games League of Legends and Crossfire. Turtle Beach will be releasing their new headset May 27th starting at $200. Dubbed the Elite Pro, Turtle Beach claims they’ve designed this one from the ground up for eSports players. One of the main highlights is the adjustable headband or ‘ComforTec Fit System’ allowing users to personalize the fit.

Activision Blizzard will begin to broadcast eSports live on Facebook. The kickoff event is a Call of Duty Black Ops 3 tournament (MLG Anaheim Open) that begins on June 10th, 2016. “eSports is an exciting space and continues to be a growing priority for us,” said Dan Reed who is Facebook’s head of global sports partnerships. The June Facebook debut will coincide with the release of their new EVE (Enhanced Viewing Experiences) technology for its MLG.tv streaming platform.
