Every gamer knows that being a gamer requires a certain level of commitment and investment. No matter the level or type of gamer you are, you are required to invest quite a lot of money in a system and games. Keeping this in mind, developers of gaming consoles and accessories tend to take advantage of gamers. They price their products high, knowing that there is a demand for it and tend to get away with it more often than not. We have a list of gaming gadgets that we feel people overpaid in 2017.
1. PlayStation VR Bundle
Don’t get us wrong, the Playstation VR Bundle is definitely a wonderful piece of technology. It allows us to get a glimpse of the world of VR and what is to come in the gaming world. Sony is really looking to make the most of it and has an innovative and intriguing device. It enables you to get the most of gaming, giving you the first person gaming experience which is something all gamers have sought out for. However, the device is not cheap. It has to be bought separately or bundled together with a PlayStation 4, more than doubling the price of the console. While the experience is wonderful, you can easily get a similar experience for a fraction of the price by bundling a smartphone with a mobile VR headset. However, in doing that the gaming experience and selection is not as good as what you get with the PlayStation VR Bundle.
2. Razer Mamba Chroma Wireless
If you use your PC as a gaming device then you know the importance of having a mouse that is capable of detecting every click and moves around smoothly. Razer is known to produce mice that are perfect for gaming. The Mamba Chroma is no different as it comes with Razer’s 5G-laser sensor and their Click Force technology which allow for precise movement and customization. The shape of the mouse provides a claw-like grip so your hand is easily locked in once on the mouse. While the mouse performs well it is also priced at over $100. Some may argue the price is justified, however, with many mice under $100 performing on par with the Razer Mamba Chroma, I felt it was overpriced.
3. Corsair Gaming K95 Mechanical Keyboard
PC gamers tend to have more choices when it comes to accessories which is why it’s hard to understand why they overpay for them. Priced over $200, the Corsair Gaming K95 is all a PC gamer would ask for in a keyboard. The keyboard comes with the Cherry MX Red switches which allow for smooth keys with fast reaction time while the overall layout of the keyboard has been well-received by gamers. Unless you are a fanboy of the keyboard, you can easily get another keyboard that performs just as well a little over $100 like the Roccat Ryos MK Pro or even some others for under $100.
4. NACON Revolution PRO Controller Gamepad
Being an e-sport player, you probably want a controller that is dependable and the NACON Revolution PRO Controller for the PS4 provides just that. It promises to take your gaming to the next level providing both accuracy and precision with every touch of a button so the system picks up every little movement. The controller is fully customizable giving you complete control over it. While it provides numerous features and benefits it is also roughly 5 times more expensive than the Sony original controller. Making it one of the more expensive controllers for the PS4 in the market.
5. Oculus Rift
Unlike the PlayStation VR system, the Oculus Rift is a VR system that you can pair with your PC. It doesn’t have the same library of games as the PlayStation counterpart but is slowly growing. The overall experience in the Oculus is realistic and quite fun. However, if you don’t have a gaming PC you may want to consider upgrading for the best pairing. Priced around $400 the Oculus isn’t cheap and the possibility of having to upgrade your PC system for it to work to its optimal level can set you back quite a lot.
While gamers tend to be aware of the financial investments required, it doesn’t mean they can’t be smart about it. While console gamers tend to have some limitations with compatibility with cheaper accessories and gadgets, PC gamers usually don’t face similar issues. In either case, you should do the research to ensure you don’t overpay for gaming gadgets you can easily get for a lower price.
